The hoof trimming course is our response to the dynamic market demand for hoof care. As pioneers, we decided to establish the Hoof Trimmers’ School to build a strong group dedicated to the welfare of cattle in our country.

Who Can Become a Hoof Trimmer?

The hoof trimmer course is ideal for those looking to help animals, change careers, or expand their knowledge of hoof trimming. We offer comprehensive training covering topics such as the most common hoof diseases, digit technopathies, and the impact of environmental conditions. You will learn proper trimming techniques, work with hydraulic crushes, and how to set up a work station. We train individuals with no experience, as well as students, technicians, and veterinarians. How to Become a Hoof Trimmer ?

To become a hoof trimmer, technical skills alone are not enough. Comprehensive training is necessary to prepare for safe work with cattle. A hoof trimmer must have solid theoretical knowledge and master the proper technique to effectively assist animals without causing harm.

What topics are covered in the course?

You cannot imagine a good hoof trimmer without basic knowledge of cattle hoof anatomy and hoof diseases. While this knowledge might sometimes seem unnecessary, a professional hoof trimmer uses it in practice to ensure that the implemented care is as effective as possible. Simply trimming is often not enough when other external factors, such as environmental or metabolic conditions, affect hoof health. A trimmer should know how to meet the client’s expectations and the needs of the herd.

During the course, you will also acquire practical skills. You will learn proper hoof trimming techniques and how to prepare a hoof for further treatment, as well as when to perform follow-up checks. A good trimmer also knows how to implement a corrective plan if poor hoof health persists despite regular trimming, and we will teach you this.

Although some candidates for hoof trimmers may already have practical experience, they will certainly further develop their skills during the course, and the theoretical knowledge will be a pleasant surprise. According to our students’ feedback, they did not realize how crucial the theoretical component of the course is for animal welfare.

Jan Weihs, the founder of the Hoof Trimmers’ School, is an undisputed authority in hoof trimming and care, a long-time practitioner and lecturer, co-creator of the latest generation of hoof care products with nano silver, and the developer of the proprietary formula for the WEIHS brand Regenerating Cream for hooves and feet. At the request of leading industry magazines, he has written numerous articles addressing important aspects of hoof health. His articles can be found in bimonthly publications such as “Hoduj z głową,” “Weterynaria w Terenie,” and “Top Agrar.” Concerned with animal welfare, he designed the manual cattle crush PBW-1, which has been on the market for years.

What Document Will I Receive After the Course ?

A hoof trimmer is not a registered profession in Poland. Therefore, we do not grant the title of hoof trimmer.

Upon completing the course, participants receive a certificate of completion, which certifies the skills acquired in hoof trimming and care, similar to a diploma from a school. Our company is listed in the registry of training institutions and has been providing its services since 1997. This certificate serves as a gateway to further professional development.

Additionally, the certificate issued by our institution is essential if you need to claim compensation in the event of an unfortunate incident on the farm due to your actions. The insurance company covering your services will require proof that you have completed training in hoof trimming for cattle.

Exam

On the last day of the course, an exam will take place. It is not difficult if the participants have paid proper attention to the classes. After passing the exam, each participant receives a certificate of completion, signed by the instructors and trainers. This certificate serves as a gateway to further professional development and practicing the profession. We are a renowned company collaborating with Polish universities on training for veterinary students, and we have already trained hundreds of participants.

Is it possible to get financial support for the course ?

Your course can be fully funded by employment offices. We have been cooperating with these offices for many years, and many people have already benefited from this form of financing. To have your course costs covered by the employment office, you need to be registered as unemployed and request a referral to our training. The rest of the formalities will be handled between our institution and the employment office. You don’t need to worry about anything else.

How much does the hoof trimming course cost and how long does it last ?

In our institution, a 4-day course costs 8000.00 PLN. The price includes accommodation and full board.

On average, the theoretical and practical parts amount to 30 training hours tailored to the participants’ needs. The course concludes with an examination.
